The Village
Verano is a small, sun-drenched village on the Tschögglberg plateau at around 1,500m above sea level, looking out over the Adige valley toward the Dolomites. It is one of the sunniest spots in South Tyrol, sheltered from cold northern winds and bathed in light for most of the year.
Life here is quiet and unhurried. There are no tourist crowds, no traffic jams, just meadows, forest paths, and mountain air.
The village centre is a 3-minute walk from the apartment and has everything you need for a self-catered stay: a well-stocked supermarket (open daily except Sunday afternoon), a bakery, a bank, and a post office.
Restaurants near Verano
Gasthaus Zum Waal
A classic South Tyrolean inn serving hearty local dishes: Schlutzkrapfen (spinach and ricotta pasta), Speckknödel (bacon dumplings in broth), Wiener Schnitzel and local Lagrein wine. Relaxed, family-run atmosphere. About 5 minutes from the apartment on foot.
Pizzeria Dorfkeller
A popular local pizzeria in the village centre, serving wood-fired pizzas and pasta. Great value, casual, and a favourite with locals and guests alike. Open most evenings.
Café Restaurant Tschögglberg
A sunny terrace café with views over the valley, serving coffee, cakes, light lunches and South Tyrolean aperitivo. Perfect for a lazy afternoon in the sun.
Ansitz Rungghof
A historic farmstead restaurant a short drive away, serving traditional South Tyrolean cuisine with locally sourced ingredients. Worth booking ahead, especially in summer.
The village also has a cable car (the Vöraner Seilbahn) connecting Verano to Burgstall in the valley below, where you can catch buses and trains to Merano and Bolzano. The cable car runs regularly and is a scenic and practical way to get around without a car.
